The benefits of losing fat, improving your health and getting in better shape are discussed at length pretty much everywhere on the Internet, however people rarely touch on the cons! Cons may not be the right word depending on how you look at what you need to do in order to change but there are major shifts that need to take place to be successful. Let’s go over them!
You need to be honest with yourself…what I’m doing now isn’t working, I’m not happy with my habits and I need to change. This one takes courage!
You need to be aware of what you’re putting in your mouth and that takes attention, attention takes energy so what I’m saying is fat loss takes work! It’s extremely easy to eat whatever is ‘around’ and go for the convenient options day in and day out. It takes very little effort and it’s super convenient.
Fat loss takes a consistent effort, when you have ‘I’ll make up for it tomorrow’ days all the time you get nowhere fast but ‘there is always tomorrow’ days give you immediate gratification and fat loss isn’t an instant pay off.
Seeing past the immediate moment is tougher than ever in our ‘get it now’ fast paced technological society. Putting in work and reaping the reward later seems like a foreign concept to some, having foresight and doing something now for the improvements that take weeks, months or sometimes years is difficult.
There needs to be a certain amount of discipline exercised. You need to be your own parent to a certain extent and no you don’t get dessert every fuckin’ night…would you give your child ice cream every time they asked for it, no. This one takes a firm discipline and it isn’t an easy trait to develop, it can be developed but it ain’t easy ya’ll!
People are going to pressure you and it’s much harder to say no than it is to have a rubber arm and be a pleaser. It takes balls to stay true to your goals, your word and be strong in knowing what takes priority at the time. You appear to be more ‘fun’ without a firm foundation of discipline.
Whether it’s people in your life that are trying to sabotage your efforts or it’s you self sabotaging yourself this is a very real element to deal with when making changes of any sort. Most people want you to stay the same; it’s easy to stay the same and takes little effort.
We self medicate with food. Food is a drug but the only difference between this drug and others is that we need it to survive. If we don’t eat we die, if we never touch heroine in our lives we’ll do just fine! It takes a courageous individual to come home from a shitty day at work and not chow down on a bunch of ‘comfort food.’
Now I know this is sort of a grim picture I’ve painted however these are the issues that stop us from getting the energy levels and health we have access to. Think back to the points above when you say to yourself ‘why don’t I just do it’…because it’s hard, it takes effort and time as well as care but I gotta close by saying…it’s so worth it.
