You’ve gotta eat 6 meals per day no more than 3 hours apart or your metabolism will shut down and your muscle will disappear…uhhh…fortunately our bodies are much more efficient than that!
It was believed before (I admit I used to be one of these people) that eating frequently throughout the day ‘stokes’ the metabolism and induces fat burning while larger infrequent meals (standard breaky, lunch and dins for example) aren’t as effective for fat loss!
The truth is that the metabolism doesn’t know the difference! Your metabolism knows total calories not how many times it’s being fed daily…so what does that mean?
Whether you eat 2,000 calories in 6 meals or you eat 2k calories in 3 meals the metabolism reacts the same way, therefore it’s calorie dependent not frequent feeding dependent! I’m sure a few of you are relieved because the thought of cooking, prepping and eating 6x a day is a daunting task…the good news is you don’t have to in order to get the results you desire!
Now some people prefer to eat a bunch of times daily and if that’s you and it works, great keep doing it! However if you’re like me and would rather work food around your day as opposed to working your day around food you’re in luck!
Some could even argue that 3 meals or a standard breakfast, lunch and dinner can produce even better results for the majority of the population due to feeling satisfied and full after chowing down on larger portions as opposed to a bunch of very small feedings!
Let’s say I was eating 2,000 calories daily…I would rather consume:
-3 meals of 650-700 calories
As opposed to:
-6 meals of 300-350 calories
Not only does sitting down 6 times a day to eat take wayyy more time, I find I am much more satiated from larger less frequent feedings. Eating 6 meals daily (and I’ve done it) makes food the focus of your day as opposed to fitting food into your lifestyle. You want to go out for the day shopping, walking, running errands etc. but you have to work it around 6 feeding times…huge hassle!
Here is where the typical breakfast, lunch and dinner makes things super simple and much more attainable for the average person!
Personally I eat 3 times per day and my results are no different than when I scheduled in 6 meals! So before you think you need a bunch of small frequent meals to achieve your fat loss goals, think again!
