Detox diets, teas, fads, cleanses…have you tried them all? Lost of a bunch of weight and put it all back on and then some? I want to change the way you think about the word detox.
“Detox Diets” are not the way to go and neither are teas made from honey or cayenne pepper. Think about detoxing as a daily activity as opposed to a few times per year kind of gig.
Below I’m going to outline 5 things you can do everyday to detoxify your body instead of putting it through hell and back on one of the wild and unhealthy ‘detox’ products they sell in an infomercial or at the supplement store!
Go to the grocery store and pick up a bag of lemons, they don’t need to be organic the regular ones will do just fine! While you’re there grab a little handheld plastic or metal juicer as well so you can squeeze the lemon juice into a glass and throw away the peel.
The skin is what keeps the pesticides and chemicals out so you don’t want to add it to your beverage! Have one whole freshly squeezed lemon in a tall glass of water every day!
Veggies are a great way to provide your body with tons of nutrients and detoxify at the same time! Cruciferous vegetables are especially effective at detoxifying harmful estrogens from the body. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and asparagus are just a few. Add at least one cup of vegg to each of your meals throughout the day!
Get lots of quality protein in your daily routine to detoxify the liver effectively! Protein ramps up the elimination of harmful toxins via your liver! The liver is known as the garbage can of the body, it gets rid of all the waste so take proper care of it with adequate protein daily!
Fiber binds to toxins in the body and helps get rid of them via bowel movements. If you find you’re not getting enough fiber from your veggies and quality carbs, supplement with a heaping tablespoon of psyllium husk powder each day.
Take note that some people don’t need to add psyllium to their diet and find it will actually ‘back them up.’ If psyllium backs you up you’re most likely doing just fine with the fiber from your regular meals!
This one is far from sexy but water is the absolute best thing you can take in to detoxify daily! Aim for 3-4 liters each day, your pee should be clear and if it’s not you’re dehydrated. The body cannot function properly without adequate hydration so if you’re looking to improve the way you look; stay on top of your H2O intake!
